An Interview with Dr. Austin C. Lovelace (b. 1919) Celebrated hymn composer, organist, and choir director. He is the author of five books, served on the editorial committee for five hymnals, published over 700 works for organ, choir, and solo voice with 40 publishers.
"How did you go about motivating your choirs? You've had quite large choirs."
"Well, I think mainly because I've gotten them to sound a lot better than they ever had. In other words, if singing isn't fun, and they don't hear results, they don't keep coming. Another thing is exciting repertoire. I've always managed to push them a little ahead of where they think they can go. But maybe the biggest thing is that I've been able to convince them that the purpose of the music is for worship and not for concert. I've always tried to relate everything to the scriptures. And I made sure that the choir understood why we were doing what we were doing." Continue This Interview with Dr. Lovelace.

"Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence." Colossians 1:15-18

"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night shows knowledge..." Psalm 19
Te Deum Laudamus (Hymn of the Christian Church).
WE praise thee, O God, we acknowledge thee to be the Lord. All the earth doth worship thee, the Father everlasting. To thee all Angels cry aloud: the Heavens, and all the Powers therein. To thee Cherubim and Seraphim continually do cry, Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabbath; 5
Heaven and earth are full of the Majesty of thy Glory. The glorious company of the Apostles praise thee. The goodly fellowship of the Prophets praise thee. The noble army of Martyrs praise thee. The holy Church throughout all the world doth acknowledge thee; 10 The Father, of an infinite Majesty; Thine honorable, true, and only Son; Also the Holy Ghost, the Comforter. Thou art the King of Glory, O Christ! Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father. 15 When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man, thou didst not abhor the Virgin’s womb. When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death, thou didst open the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers. Thou sittest at the right hand of God in the Glory of the Father. We believe that thou shalt come to be our Judge. We therefore pray thee, help thy servants whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood. 20
Make them to be numbered with thy Saints in glory everlasting. O Lord, save thy people and bless thine heritage. Govern them, and lift them up for ever. Day by day we magnify thee; And we worship thy Name, ever world without end. 25
Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us this day without sin. O Lord, have mercy upon us: have mercy upon us. O Lord, let thy mercy lighten upon us: as our trust is in thee. O Lord, in thee have I trusted: let me never be confounded.

How to Start a God-Centered Contemporary Worship Service by Lou Dicker
One of the questions commonly asked is: "How do we start a Contemporary worship service?" Before answering this question a more important question needs to be answered, which is "Why? Why have a contemporary service?" If the answer is because we don't like traditional music, or we want to draw more people, or the church down the road is doing it, then I believe the attempt will probably fail. If the motivation is to display the glory of God, follow God's leading and to worship and glorify Him, then I believe the Lord will bless the efforts we make to honor Him. Let us look at these reasons. (continue) |
